Men Love Mary Tribute

On this journey as independent soul artists, there are so many people that help us along the way.   It would be impossible to create the music, and at the same time single-handedly promote to everyone.  Luckily there are people that are just as passionate as we are to help spread the word.  One website in particular is  I visit pretty much everyday and get a healthy dose of all things soul.  When they approached me to be on their Men Love Mary Tribute Album, I was amped.  Not only do I love Mary, but they involved so many heavy hitters in Indie Soul that I was honored to be included amongst them.  I am not really one to do a straight ahead cover and I was fortunate enough to have a stellar group of musicians set the backdrop.  Big up to the fellas for driving all the way from BK, cramming a drumkit into my shoebox of a studio, and putting it DOWN!  On drums Les Cleveland, bass David ‘DJ’ Ginyard, and keyboards Corey Bernhard.  Enjoy.

I encourage you to go to and download this incredible FREE ALBUM as well as check out their great coverage.  I am sure you will be hooked.  Here is my version — Happy (2BA Live Mix).

P.S. The live show just took place at S.O.B.’s in NYC.  I hope to get some video up in a minute.  There were a few surprises, but I’ll let the video speak to that.  🙂

  1. Wow. So you finally jumped in. It’s weird but I’ve been thinking about blogging myself for a minute. I’ve done a bit of reading up on it and most folks think that blogs are going to take the place of having a website. So it does make sense to have one. But with a day job, 2 daughters and still trying to do music, it just seemed like yet another hassle. But checking out your spot has made me have to re-think it.

Great job on the Men Love Mary joint. Wanted to catch the show but I had to go check Mom in Norfolk, Va. Hopefully, I catch the next show in the NYC.

Congrats on the New Artist award, too! Continued success and hopefully, I’ll get a chance to catch you up!

    Be EZ!

  2. Hey Darien,
My money-earnin’ brother. Congrats on the new blog. It was great hearing you perform at SOBs for the Men Love Mary showcase. Eric was in rare form and I was so proud that Butta & Soul Bounce’s concept was coming to life. I might have mentioned that Butta and I went to college together and hadn’t seen each other in about 17yrs (except on Facebook).

You did your thing…it was definitely one of the best performances of the night. Truly inspired! Imagine my surprise to see an old friend from my Mt. V house head days living his dream and making beautiful music.

I am so proud of you and look forward to hearing and reading gifted things! It sounds like you are enjoying the artist journey and the process, which is where the growth occurs.

    Peace, love and light,
    Andrea aka EbonyQueen
